Setup a new Google Analytics account for your website
Follow the steps below to create a Google Analytics account from scratch.
1. Sign Up in Google Analytics
The Sign Up process is pretty straightforward wherein you provide details of your Gmail id along with your domain name for which you need to create the account.

Follow the below-mentioned steps to sign up for a new Google Analytics account:
- Navigate to Google Analytics Sign Up screen. Click here. Click on ‘Start for Free‘.
- Provide your Gmail credentials to sign in.

- Provide a name to your account which represents your brand. The name could be anything, your company name, brand name, blog, or anything that would represent your identify in Google Analytics.
- Select all the recommended settings in Account Data Sharing, and click Next.
What do you want to measure?
- In this step, select what you would like to track or measure. Since you are tracking the website, select ‘Web‘, and click Next.
Property Set up
- In the next step, you need to provide your website details. So, start by providing your website name, website URL, the industry category, and the time zone in which you want your data to be tracked. Provide all these details and click on ‘Create‘ to create your account.
- Accept the Terms & Conditions in the next step and continue.
That’s it, you have created your Google Analytics account successfully.
3. Copy code to your website
This is the final step where you place your Google Analytics code onto your website to start tracking. In case you are unsure, here is a step-by-step approach on how to do that.
Setup your website to an existing Google Analytics
In case you already have a Google Analytics account and would like to add your newly created website to it, follow the below-mentioned steps.
- Navigate to the Admin tab: Click on the Admin setting positioned in the left pane.
Create Account
- Click on ‘Create Account’ and provide the basic info about your account.

- Country of Business – If your site/business dictates to a specific country, only then select this option. Else skip.
- Data Sharing Setting – Select all the relevant check boxes that you feel are essential. However, if you’re unsure, just let the default settings be in place as that would automatically take into consideration all the relevant ones.
- Save the account setting.
- Once you save, you’ll find your account details added in the Accounts tab with the following info:
Create Property
- Click on ‘Create Property’ to add a new property under the newly created account.
- Create Property – You’ll be presented with the following 3 options. If you just want to track the App data, select the ‘Apps’ option. Else, go with the ‘Web’. ‘Apps and web’ is currently in the BETA phase. Until its fully deployed, it’s safe to use the web option for now. Click ‘Continue’.
- Property Details – Provide a property name again relevant to the business. You can have the same name as your account as if you’re just going to handle one property under this account. Else, you can have properties defined as per your segment.
- Default URL – Provide the URL to your website. Note: The default protocol selected is ‘HTTP’. Make sure you change it to ‘https’ if you have that in place.
- Industry Category – Select the industry to which your website caters to.
- Reporting Time Zone – Select the relevant time zone in which you need your data to be displayed. Click Create.
- Once you create, you’ll have your property tab in place with the following options.
Create View
- Click on ‘Create View’ to add a new view under the newly created account and its property.
- Reporting View Name – Again, provide a view name that identifies this view of your business. You may segment the views based on device or country or app or any other segmentation you need to have in place.
- Reporting Time Zone – Select the default time zone in which you need the data to be captured/filtered in. Click ‘ Create View’.
- Once you create, you’ll have your View tab in place with the following options.
Once you’ve done these, you’ve successfully created an analytics account for your site. However, you’ll not be seeing any data here unless you add the analytics code of the newly created account to your website.
